The motto at Aladdin's is: "Eat good, eat healthy." And to that end, Aladdin’s menu features pitas served in a plethora of ways: pocket, rolled, or with toppings as “pitza,” as well as dishes like salad with chargrilled tuna or chicken lentil soup. After all that delicious wholesome food, you deserve a slice of the truly decadent-looking cakes that greet you as soon as you walk in the front door. Oh, and try the smoothies. Fabulous.

One of Columbus’ great places for dinner and beer. Upscale and surprisingly eclectic bar food with a great micro-brewery. They have great wings and burgers (including a Kobe burger), but also excellent lamb shank, risotto, and fresh fish. Sandwiches are around $8 and up; entrees range from around $10 – $20. The beer is award winning – try the Russian Imperial Stout.

Smaller venue tucked away in Victorian Village, innovative Italian food, nice side patio area. Watch the chefs work in the open kitchen. (Make reservations if possible.)

A vegetarian lunch/early dinner joint. Reasonable prices, exquisite bread, bountiful salad, comforting soups!

Good, reasonably priced sushi and bento with Japanese (and Korean) sides. You can eat outside on their fenced porch, eat inside, or get take-out. Try the Spicy Tuna Sashimi bowl for just under $10. Plenty of great lunch specials (bento-style) around $6 - $8 that include sides and soup. Try the Chicken Teriyaki and other stir-fry specials.

OK, so mostly this place is frequented by angst ridden punks and middle-aged alcoholics, but a few graduate students wander in for shockingly cheap bagelwiches at lunch. Oh, and it’s a hard-core punk venue at night. Keep an eye out for Cindy next time “Kill Whitey” plays.

Mac n’ cheese, Pabst, Martinis, ironic pin-up girls… what else do you need to know? Owned by the same young feminist entrepreneur as Surly Girl.

Very good Ethiopian, friendly owners

Creative paninis, extensive beer list, great coffee bar, lovely sidewalk seating. Tip: $1 grilled cheese and discounted alcohol on Mondays.

Local, independent coffee house serving all coffee drinks and an assortment of sandwiches and breakfast muffins, bagels, etc. A good place for breakfast, lunch, studying, or just hanging out for a while over a latte. The front tables offer an excellent view for people-watching on High St.

modern, stylish, candlelit martini bar—2$ drink specials weekdays 6-8, otherwise fairly pricey but inventive drinks

High-end soul food upstairs (with corn bread!), lounge area with jazz downstairs.

If you frequent Buckeye Donuts between Midnight and 6 AM, you will often find a mixture of intellectual debate, chess tournaments and people singing along to classic rock on the radio. The donuts are famous, and there is plenty of cheap eats, including a good selection of vegetarian items, including a veggie gyro, a hummus sandwich and a falafel sandwich (all of which can be made vegan).

Vic Village haunt tucked away a few blocks off High (wireless)

tucked away in Easton, a Turkish eatery with all the usual suspects and wonderful kabobs. Actually, the Easton area as a whole has a wide variety of restaurants to try.

Souped up diner food, stylized diner décor, better than most at handling big groups.

Comments: Philly-style cheese steaks, both steak and chicken. They usually have a $5 lunch special that includes sandwich and fries.

An upscale food chain with a menu that boasts more than 200 items from pizza to egg rolls to burritos. Guaranteed to have something for everyone. Oh, and there’s cheesecake (35 kinds).

Short north, gay-ish spot, just a few miles south of campus on High

Clintonville hang out a few miles north on High, home of Scott Dewitt and Elizabeth Marsch (wireless)

kick back with a beer and some buddies at this low-key jazz venue, cover R-Sa

Excellent, inexpensive South Indian vegetarian restaurant. Very casual atmosphere (next to Kinko's).

A high-end vegan restaurant. They do things with mushrooms you never thought were possible. The cocktails, especially the lavender gimlet, are top-notch.

Greek restaurant/bar. Good weekend bunch.

Mexicana magnifica! El Vaquero’s the place to go for the authentic burritos, tacos, and chimichangas this side of the Mexican border. Don’t fill up the on the pre-dinner chips and salsa: plates come piled high with food. My favorite restaurant.

Excellent breakfast food, décor like a Florida hotel

Flying Pizza specializes in the slice, serving a thin, crisp but yeasty New York-style crust with a mild sauce that's not too sweet. When ordering by the slice, the stuff is pre-baked beforehand, and toppings are added as you order. While this method makes for a pretty good piece, if you've ever had this pizza just baked from scratch, you'll be spoiled for good. There are also hoagies on the menu: steak, meatball, and sausage.

A recently opened section of campus, the Gateway hosts a bunch of little shops, restaurants, a movie theater, etc.

Excellent pizza for thicker crust lovers. Try the Smokin’ Joe’s crust and choose between spicy or regular sauce. Veggie pizza is a personal favorite, open late, has an adjoining bar called the Ravari Room with 5$ pizza, cheap drink deals until 9.

Good North Indian food in an upscale urban atmosphere.

Probably C-Bus’ most popular greasy spoon, Jack & Benny’s has all the elements of that dining genre: kitschy décor, colorful locals, and filling omelettes, pancakes, and sides. Lunch (served after 11 AM during the work week only) includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, and soups. While weekday visitors will most likely sit right down, Sunday visitors should be prepared for lines.

The best most inventive ice cream in the world. SERIOUSLY.

Good Chinese, wide variety of non-standard chinese dishes

New York style deli with a staggering selection of cheeses and meats, breads, olives and other foodie staples, very knowledgeable and passionate staff…sandwiches are expensive, but delicious, barrels of homemade pickles. tip: grab a sandwich and some rugala and walk the mile or so down to the end of the street to Shakespeare in Shiller Park Thursday through Sunday at 8

Innovative, inexpensive rolls as well as Korean dishes in a small quaint dining area. They bring you edamame without having to ask for it.

Larry's atmosphere has invited OSU students and faculty, artists, musicians, thinkers, poets, and the like since the early 1920's. It's a place where new friends meet, and old friends gather. In addition to the famous Monday night poetry forum, Larry’s offers: artwork displayed by local artists; a pool table; a pinball machine; video "crack"; nightly drink specials; shelled peanuts and snacks, and the best juke box on High Street. Voted year after year the best dive bar in Columbus.

A café (with indoor and outdoor seating and a magazine rack) featuring wraps, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, rice bowls, and breakfast foods made from local organic ingredients. A delight for omnivores and vegetarians alike. All the food is good, but the veggie burger...ooooooohhhhhh!

“Bakers of bread fresh from the oven; a symbol of warmth and welcome; a simple pleasure, honest and genuine; a life story told over dinner; a long lunch with an old friend; a weekday morning ritual; the soft doughy insides and the crunchy crust” (Panera Bread Website). Well, maybe some of that. Their bread is awesome and their soup and sandwiches are good. There is a fireplace, and if you ask, they’ll give you extra butter.

Hard to find, weird hours, but offers the best desserts in town.

Fast food from "around the world"

Comfort food with sass (as in, the BLT&A), a diverse and saucy mix of rockers in a shabby chic saloon. A lounge area in the back with djs at night, and perhaps the cheapest happy hour around (75 cent drafts). Annie Oakley meets LeTigre.

Good Indian restaurant with a lunch buffet, close to campus.

Standard diner fare, lots of options, awfully cheap. A dive in search of the smoky haze it once had. Sit in a booth, drink your beer, experience the dankness of the Dube.

A spectacular choice for both vegetarians and omnivores. They have a menu which includes a wide variety of lamb dishes, great vegetarian dishes, and fresh seafood and pastas. Appetizers range from calamari to hummus to spinach feta dip. They have great desserts as well, ranging far beyond mere baklava.Expect to pay somewhere in the teens for your entrée, and expect to leave full, happy, and, possibly, Greek.
